Horse Racing Around the World (part 1)

Horse racing is an equestrian sport that has existed for centuries. Horse racing of the Roman period was the first form of horse racing. This sport is often associated with adventure betting.

One of the major forms of horse racing popular in many parts of the world is thoroughbred horse racing. Harness racing is also popular in the Eastern United States, in Canada. 400-meter (quarter-horse) racing is popular in the western United States. In short, Quarter horses are unique breeds that run exclusively on the 1/4 mile track. This breed is smaller than regular horses, only 1.50m-1.55m high.

Horse breeding, horse training and horse races in some countries are now an important economic activity. In addition, the betting industry is very strong. Especially the winning horses will win millions of dollars and also create more by providing services for it such as care and nurturing.

In Australia

Horse racing in Australia is the most successful sport with the world famous Melbourne Cup race. In Australia, the most famous racing horse is Phar Lap. In 51 appearances in his life, Phar Lap won the first prize 37 times. From 2003-2005, Makybe Diva became the first with only one horse to win a succession in the Melbourne Cup.

In Asia

Horse racing in Asia is very popular and has been there since ancient times. The king used to open horse races for entertainment. Today, in countries like Japan, Hong Kong (China), Malaysia, Singapore and more, horse racing is both a skillful art and an entertaining sport.

In America

Horse racing in North America is a huge skillful art that is worth billions of dollars. North American horse racing began running when the horse was only 2 years old. The biggest tournaments in North America are Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont. These three tournaments are only for 3-year-old horses, collectively known as The Triple Crown. So far only 12 horses have won all three tournaments in a year. These are Sir Barton (1919), Gallant Fox (1930), Omaha (1935), War Admiral (1937), Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948), Secretariat (1973) , Seattle Slew (1977), Affirmed (1978), and American Pharoah (2015).
